About
Woodshed Music is my recording studio in Patterson, New York, just about an hour and a half north of NYC near the Connecticut border. Woodshed Music lives in the basement of our home—a former parish house built in 1827—and the studio sits at the base of Cranberry Mountain nature preserve, overlooking the protected wetlands of Haviland Brook.
"Whether you just want some trippy flute fills or a full-blown killing horn section, we’ve got you covered."
Woodshed Music is a boutique studio with a big attitude. Love of all music and years of experience inform the quality here, which is made even more unique by the blending of state of the art technology with human touch. As a saxophonist and woodwind player, I’m able to incorporate those instruments when applicable into the creative process; mixing real flutes and clarinets into an orchestral piece, for example, allows the overall arrangement to sound more organic and texturally pleasing. Real winds help take away the boxy, sterile sound associated with some sample and software-only compositions and raises them to a more realistic sonic quality and beauty.
"We’ve even created fully realized arrangements by listening to people sing their ideas over the phone."
My studio also specializes in providing artists, producers, and other studios with horn section and woodwind tracks. Whether you just want some trippy flute fills or a full-blown killing horn section, we’ve got you covered. All the saxes are in-house and the brass players we use to fill out the section are not only ‘neighbors,’ but they just happen to be some of the best musicians in New York. They are very accustomed to recording here and getting a great sound in this relaxed, test-proven environment. We can write charts for you, use your own charts, or arrange parts based on your ideas, and we’ve even created fully realized arrangements by listening to people sing their ideas over the phone. Woodshed Music is a versatile, experienced studio: there’s no style or genre outside of our wheelhouse.
