Music invites the listener to take a journey. When I set out to make this album a little more than three years ago, my goal was to create something a little different but accessible to the listener. As a starting point I relied on one of my greatest influences, the modal jazz of the fifties and sixties. The way that music created conversational canvases over which melodic instruments traveled will always be timeless and compelling.
Embracing elements of electronic music and taking pages from the sometimes chill, sometimes angular influences of prog rock (another big influence), I’ve attempted to build a kind of synthesized river over which the saxophone travels, sometimes like a raft, sometimes like a hovercraft. No loops, prefab beats, or Al were used in this music. Each part was thoughtfully and lovingly played by hand to ensure an organic feel and listening experience. I was constantly striving for an organic feel with a weaving combination of sounds. Here then, is Something in the Field, the single from my twelve-song album Galactic Rivers, my humble invitation.
